A full introduction to what is a motherboard

A motherboard is a Printed Circuit Board (PCB). Also known as Logical Board, System Board, Printed Wired Board (PWB), and Mainboard (Mobo).

The motherboard is the most important part of the computer. In which all the necessary equipment is connected. These include tools like CPU, RAM, HDD, Monitor, BIOS, CMOS, Mouse, Keyboard, etc. which are connected through Dedicated Ports. The motherboard delivers power supply to these devices and makes the communication happen among themselves.

What is Computer Motherboard

The motherboard is a plastic sheet in which various ports are made to connect the equipment. The connection of each port is solder to the motherboard. Which we can also see with our eyes.

Different types of motherboards - Motherboard Types

Motherboards are available in many features and capabilities. And these capabilities and characteristics depend on the motherboard manufacturers. Therefore no special types of motherboards are available. But depending on their texture, they can be divided into two parts.

  1. Integrated Motherboard
  2. Non-Integrated Motherboard

1. Integrated Motherboard

Motherboards in which separate ports are made to connect different components of the computer are called Integrated Motherboard. Nowadays these motherboards are used in PCs, Laptops etc. Through these motherboards, you can easily upgrade any part of your computer.

2. Non-Integrated Motherboard

Motherboards that do not have ports to connect the necessary equipment are called Non-Integrated Motherboard. CPU, RAM, etc. are solder in these motherboards. And they cannot be upgraded later. Similar motherboards are used in smartphones, tablets, etc.

Functions of the motherboard - Functions of the motherboard

  1. The motherboard provides space to connect the accessories. Therefore it is also called the backbone of the computer.
  2. It provides power supply to connected devices and also manages them.
  3. Conducts communication of one device with another.
  4. The BIOS of the computer preserves the settings and information so that the computer can run smoothly.

Motherboard Different Parts Motherboard Ports

The motherboard acts as a Base or Components' Hub. With which all the necessary computer equipment is connected. Each device is connected to a Dedicated Place. This place or place is called Port.

Motherboards have different types of Ports. In which different devices of the computer can be connected. Full details of motherboard ports are given below.

Serial port

Serial ports are used to connect additional modems and older mice. These Ports come in two models 9 Pin and 25 Pin.

Parallel Port

Scanners & Printers are connected in these ports. It consists of Ports 25 Pin. They are also called Printer Port.

PS / 2 Port

These ports are round in shape. They connect the mouse and keyboard. Nowadays these ports are used very rarely.

USB Ports

The full name of the USB is Universal Serial Bus. All types of USB devices such as a mouse, keyboard, printer, hard disk, etc. can be connected by USB ports. USB ports were created in 1991. And their ability to transfer data is much faster and more.

VGA Port

This is done to connect a Computer Monitor. Its construction is similar to that of Serial Port.

Power connector

Power Connector is used to connect the motherboard to Power. Power does not go directly to the motherboard. It first goes to the SMPS and then reaches the motherboard.

Modem port

Modem Port is used to connect the computer to the Internet cable. Its design is somewhat similar to the USB port.

External ports

These ports are used to connect one computer to another. A network cable is added to them.

Game port

Game ports are used to connect Game Consoles and Joysticks. However, nowadays USB ports have started being used in their place.

DVI Port

The full name of DVI is Digital Video Interface. DVI Port is used to connect Flat Panel Monitors i.e. LCD, LED to the computer.

Sockets

Sockets are used to connect Speakers and Microphones to computers. They are round and small.

Name of major motherboard manufacturers

  1. Intel
  2. ASUS
  3. Gigabyte
  4. AMD
  5. Acer
  6. Msi
  7. ABIT
  8. Aopen
  9. Biostar
